Dice Roller

About virtual dice rolling

Virtual dice are a quick substitute for physical dice — useful for board games, tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, deciding who goes first, or any situation that needs a random number generator with a familiar dice format. This tool supports the common polyhedral dice used in tabletop games (D4 through D100), not just the standard six-sided die.

How the rolls are generated

Each die roll uses JavaScript's built-in random number generator to produce a uniformly random integer between 1 and the number of sides you selected. Rolling multiple dice at once repeats this independently for each die and adds up the results to show the total, exactly like rolling several physical dice together.

Frequently asked questions

Are the rolls truly random?
The tool uses your browser's pseudorandom number generator, which is more than sufficiently random and unpredictable for games — though not cryptographically secure, so it isn't suitable for things like security keys or gambling systems that require certified randomness.
What does D20, D8, etc. mean?
The number after the D is the number of sides the die has. D20 is a 20-sided die commonly used in tabletop RPGs, D6 is a standard six-sided die, and so on.
Can I roll more than 6 dice at once?
This tool limits a single roll to 6 dice to keep the results easy to read at a glance. For larger totals, you can roll multiple times and add the totals together.
