Where the exchange rates come from

Rates are fetched live from the Frankfurter API, which republishes the European Central Bank's daily reference exchange rates — the same authoritative rates banks and financial institutions commonly reference. The ECB publishes these once each business day (around 16:00 CET), so the rate shown reflects the most recent published update, not a real-time trading rate.

Why does the rate differ slightly from what my bank or card charges?: Banks, card networks, and money exchange services add their own margin or fee on top of the reference rate, and retail exchange rates can also lag or differ from the ECB's daily reference rate — so treat this converter as a close estimate for budgeting, not the exact rate you'll receive.
How often do the rates update?: The European Central Bank publishes new reference rates once per business day, so the rate stays the same throughout the day and updates the next business day — rates aren't published on weekends or ECB holidays.
