Audio Converter

Everything happens in your browser — your audio files are never uploaded to a server.

About browser-based audio conversion

This tool converts audio files between formats (WAV, OGG, WebM, M4A) entirely inside your browser, without uploading your file to a server — useful when you need a specific audio format for a video editor, a device, or a website that only accepts certain file types.

How the conversion works

Your audio file is decoded using the Web Audio API, which turns it into raw PCM audio data your browser can process directly. WAV output is built by manually encoding that PCM data, giving an instant lossless conversion, while the other formats (OGG, WebM, M4A) are produced by re-recording the decoded audio through your browser's MediaRecorder API in real time, which is why those conversions take roughly as long as the audio's actual playback duration.

Frequently asked questions

Why does converting to OGG or M4A take longer than converting to WAV?
WAV conversion directly encodes the decoded audio data, so it finishes almost instantly. The other formats rely on real-time recording through the MediaRecorder API, so converting a 3-minute song to those formats takes about 3 minutes.
Why aren't all output formats always available?
Available output formats depend on which audio codecs your specific browser supports through MediaRecorder — this varies between browsers and operating systems, so the tool only shows formats it has confirmed your browser can actually produce.
Is my audio file uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding, processing, and encoding all happen locally using your browser's built-in Web Audio and MediaRecorder APIs — your file never leaves your device.
